Efek Rujak Ginseng India (Withania Somnifer) sebagai Terapi Mutakhir terhadap Infertilitas Pria
Abstract
Prevalensi Infertilas tahun 2013 adalah 15-25% dari seluruh pasangan yang ada. Pengobatan untuk infertilitas secara definitif masih belum ditemukan. Akar Withania somnifera digunakan sebagai adaptogen, diuretik, obat penenang, antioksidan, dan afrodisiak. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk memberikan gambaran mengenai efek rujak gingseng india (withania somnifera) sebagai terapi terbaru pada infertilitas pria. Konstituen biokimia utama Withania somnifera adalah withaferin-A, withanolide-D dan withanon. Withania somnifera juga memiliki efek farmakologis sebagai antioksidan dan menghambat lipid peroxidation (LPO) dalam spermatozoa, yang dianggap sebagai faktor utama penyebab infertilitas pria idiopatik. Tribulus terrestris dan Withania somnifer dapat menjadi pilihan terbaik untuk menangani infertilitas pada pria namun diperlukan uji klinis lebih lanjut agar aman dikonsumsi masyarakat luas.
