Saffron sebagai Terapi Adjuvant pada Komplikasi Vaskular Diabetes Melitus

Abstract

Peningkatan tajam insiden kasus dan tingginya angka kematian diabetes melitus di seluruh dunia dengan komplikasi vaskular sebagai penyebab terbesar telah menjadi beban kritis bagi masyarakat juga layanan kesehatan sejak lama. Telah banyak penelitian-penelitian terdahulu yang menyatakan pengobatan herbal seperti saffron dan kosntituen aktifnya, mampu menunjukkan efek antioksidan, hipolipidemik, anti-inflamasi, dan hipoglikemik yang memainkan regulasi penting dalam patogenesis komplikasi vaskular dari diabetes melitus. Penelitian terhadap pengobatan herbal ini diharapakan mampu menjadi terapi adjuvant bagi pasien diabetes melitus. Review ini disusun dengan melakukan penelusuran dan telaah sumber pustaka melalui database PubMed NCBI. Hasil dari penulusuran 17 jurnal mulai dari tahun 2008-2019 ditemukan saffron dan konstituen aktifnya memiliki efek antioksidan, anti-inflamasi, hipolipidemik, dan hipoglikemik yang cukup kuat. Namun efek baik tersebut belum mampu menurunkan risiko atau memperbaiki kondisi komplikasi vaskular pasien diabetes melitus.
